The New Way Forward with Plugins
Plugins are the life-blood of WP, and if something happens to a plugin, it causes a significant headache. We initially said we would only be hosting plugins with 100 thousand active installs. However, we've realized that this approach removes too many talented developers' creations. So, we've come up with a new plan for our plugin repository.
Our Updated Approach
Here's how we're going to move forward:
- We will scan all plugins for security issues.
- We'll document which ones are insecure.
- We'll email the developers of insecure plugins, giving them a chance to address the issues.
- We'll start by adding plugins with 75 thousand or more active installs to our repository.
- We'll continue this process, gradually lowering the active install threshold, until every plugin is audited and installed on our repo.

Our goal is to create the most secure publicly accessible plugin mirror online that anyone can access. This approach allows us to:
- Include a wider range of high-quality plugins
- Maintain a high standard of security
- Support talented developers who may not have reached the 100k install mark
- Provide our users with a comprehensive, secure plugin ecosystem
